Stained Glass |
|
The transept windows were built by the Munich Studio of Chicago, Illinois. Their catalog advertised "stained glass ecclesiastical art figure windows". Among the churches in Kansas advertised to have used Munich Studios were St. John's in Herington, Immaculate Chapel in St. Mary's, Holy Name in Kansas City, and St. Mary's in Marysville, as well as the Chapel of the Nazareth Academy in Concordia. The company advertised work that was "uniformly good", that they "give always more rather than less", and that they "devote every care and attention to make windows that will not fade or be affected by the agencies of time." |
Since the stained glass images must be large to be appreciated, views of larger images are provided for each section. The images are sized to fit a monitor set at at least 800x600 pixel resolution. At lower resolutions, you will need to use the slide bars to see more of the image.

There are two large rectangular panels to the left (left photo) and right (right photo) of the sanctuary and five panels above the altar around the dome. The two larger rectangular panels are the first of twelve such panels, five on each side of the church, representing the Apostles. The other panels are shown as part of the east and west wall panels, below. There are two other panels at the front of the church, facing Ninth Street, that are shown in the last section below with the choir loft and chapel. Click on any of these windows (left or right images) to see more detail. |

West Wall Panels There are 5 west wall panels as seen from the outside and 4 from the inside. The fifth panel is in the staircase to the choir loft and can only be completely seen from those steps. In the image to the left, you can see the very top and bottom of the fifth panel. Click on any of the first four panels to see the panel in more detail. Click here to see the fifth panel hidden behind the doorway to the choir loft. |

Front of Church, Choir Loft, and Chapel and Sacristy There are two large rectangular panels at front of the church. At the left (from the street) is Saint Patrick (click here) and to the right is Saint Joseph (click here). The stained glass windows in the choir loft and chapel and sacristy are decorative and do not represent any images. Click here to see some of these panels. |
NOTE: Some of the commentary on the windows of the transepts and sanctuary dome was edited from a document written by Fr. Joe Gile while he was assistant pastor.
