OUR LADY OF LOURDES STAINED CLASS

LOCATION: East Transept, Lower Panel

THEME: This panel shows three symbols representative of the saints in the corresponding upper panel. See below for details.

INSCRIPTION: Donated by Young Ladies Sodality

lower left panel: The eagle is the symbol of St. John's Gospel, the fourth. The Eagle's vision reaches the farthest into heaven and St. John's Gospel is considered to be the most profound and lofty of the four, thus John's gospel "sees farther" than the other three Gospels.

lower center panel: The harp symbolizes the native Ireland of St. Patrick (and Msgr. McCullough).

lower right panel: The lamp is a symbol of wisdom, appropriate for St. Clare, the foundress of several monasteries.
