OUR LADY OF LOURDES STAINED
CLASS
LOCATION:
East transept, upper panel.
THEME:
This panel shows St. John the Baptist, St. Patrick, and St. Clare.
These windows were donated by then pastor Msgr. McCullough. His
parents were named John and Clare, which may explain why St. John
the Evangelist and St. Clare were chosen for the panels. St. Patrick
represents Msgr.'s native land of Ireland.
- left: The figure seen writing in a book is
typical of illustrations of the Gospel writers, but the eagle
below suggests this is St. John, the Evangelist.
- center: This is a bishop as identified by the
symbols of authority - the crozier and the mitre (a bishop's
hat). The snakes below (being ordered to leave Ireland), the
green, the shamrocks, and the Celtic cross in the background
all suggest this is St. Patrick. The corresponding lower symbol
is the harp, a symbol of Ireland.
- right: This is St. Clare, holding a crozier
and a book, most likely the Rule or Guidebook to all the monasteries
she founded. The oil lamp in the corresponding lower panel, is
a symbol of wisdom.
INSCRIPTION: Donated by Fr. P.M. McCullough.
