STATUE: St. Therese of Lisieux, also known as Therese the Child Jesus or Therese of the little flower. She was a nun in a French convent when she died in her twenties. Before her death, knowing that her death would distress a fellow sister who mistreated her, remarked that after she died, she would send roses from heaven. Within a week, roses appeared in the convent chapel and so Therese is always depicted with a bouquet of roses and a crucifix, illustrating her love for the Lord. She is now considered a Doctor of the Church, whose writings are of exceptional value in explaining the faith. |
