Parish History: An Illustrated Chronology

 

TIME LINE: 1901-1925

 

1903 -- Father James Donohue, pastor of Humboldt, Kansas, received the appointment as pastor of Pittsburg.

 

1904 -- Father Donohue started the present Carthage Stone church building but did not have time to finish the edifice.

 


1905 -- Father George Reinschmidt took over the St. Mary's parish and remained until 1912. He completed the church edifice and furnished it at a total cost of $30,000. He also bought two lots, one in 1909 and 1910 for playground space.

1912 -- Dr. J. A. Pompeney came to St. Mary's as pastor for the second time. 

 

1915 -- St. Mary's parochial school reopened, after being closed in 1906 due to various circumstances.

 

1920 -- Plans were made for the present school building and the drive to collect the money for this building was started.

 

1922 -- The present St. Mary's School building's construction started and was completed during the next two years.

 

1924 -- March of this year Bishop Schwertner dedicated the new school building.
