1981 -- Father Ivan Eck. St. Mary's Centennial Day was October 11th.
THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
|
In October 1981, Our Lady of Lourdes celebrated its Centennial (1881-1981). One hundred years earlier, Father Eugenio Bononici celebrated the first mass in Pittsburg and 3 years later St. Mary's was assigned its first "resident pastor".
The Mass for the Centennial Celebration was held at the J.J. Richards Bandshell in Lincoln Park. |

The Honor Guard was composed of Fourth Degree and Knights of Columbus (photos left).
Music was provided by the Pittsburg Centennial Choir conducted by Marshall R. Turley, with Sharon Barone and Kathleen Lomshek as organists. The Festival Brass Quartet included Don Rogers (trumpet), Dr. Gary Corcoran (trumpet), Robert Graham (trombone), and Dr. Gene Vollen (trombone) |

The Offertory Procession included representatives of St. Mary's Parish. Eighth grade boys from St. Mary's Grade School were altar boys and ushers came from the Senior Class of Colgan High School.
The Principal Celebrant was Most Reverent David M. Maloney, D.D., J.D.C., Bishop of the Diocese of Wichita. |
